Contestant Chu Thi Minh Trang (born in 1993) comes from Hai Phong, she is one of 31 candidates who made it to the Northern region semi-finals of Miss Vietnam Heritage Global. She is very devoted to the heritage conservation. Minh Trang is currently a third year student of Faculty of Architecture (Hanoi University of Civil Engineering). She also has many plans to preserve the heritage of Vietnam.
"Studying architecture but I'm extremely passionate about the conservation of heritage in our country. I think that the issue of heritage conservation in our country includes many problems”, said Trang.
To nourish love for heritage, in addition to self-learning and consulting with many experts in this field, Trang has also registered to be a volunteer at the National History Museum.
"In this environment I can directly see many precious objects, learn about the history of the country, especially I can meet many experts in this field. Thus, I can increase my knowledge”.
Currently, Trang has been a volunteer at the National History Museum for over a year. Talking about reasons to choose this uncommon hobby, Trang stated that through a trip in Malaysia, she was exposed to the path of this country’s national heritage. Not only the works are beautiful, Trang was also impressed by the way they treat heritage, preserve and develop it.
According to Minh Trang, in Malaysia, students of architecture have more chances to learn about conservation, this is what students of architecture in Vietnam is still lacking.
"I remember trip to the heritage of Champa, where I had the chance to meet an expert in this works, the more I understood it, the more I loved our country’s heritage and I have found myself to be responsible in preserving the precious heritage like that”, Trang added.
When being asked about her views on the common conflict between conservation and development, Trang said: "I think it is necessary to flexibly choose both. What I have learned about Japan is they only pick out the features, which contain the characteristics of their culture and architecture of the country to preserve, while still create the environment for development. Of course, there are times when choosing development, we must also face the loss of a certain numbers of values ".
Sharing her reasons for participating in Miss Vietnam Heritage Global, Trang simply wants to convey the message of heritage conservation to the mass public, to attract a lot more attention from young people to this particular field.
